Virus Non-Erotic A micro story from Psychoknight

Judith was looking at her television while continuously pressing the button of “Next” in the remote, but actually she was not watching anything. She looked at the glow of the Giant screen that Sam brought her last week while settling in this new neighbourhood. With every press of her finger the screen was going dark for a moment and then showing some new gibberish. No new serial to watch and she promised not to watch any reality show again after they eliminated her favourite contestant few days ago in a biased decision.

“Suck it” Judith kept the remote in her couch to look outside. She knows that today is first day of financial year and Sam must attend his office, she felt terribly irritated on Sam for leaving her alone.

She looked through the open window to see inside the house of her neighbour. This city is clumsy and the houses have no privacy. Unlike their last residence, where they had a green lawn surrounding house, a drive way even a baby pool back of the house, this area is too much crowded to her taste, every house stand in close proximity to each other and you can see and hear everything of each other.

“Shut the fuck up, you silly girl, stop cursing Sam for your loneliness. You left your job last month by your own choice, Sam is doing the best he could in this situation. How can you expect him to find a palace with single earning? You are too lazy or snob to get mixed with your next doors neighbor, how can you blame Sam for that?”

Judith calmed herself and tried to get rid of the frustration she had moments ago, and just then some breaking news rolling down the news Channel caught her eyes.
She quickly picked up the remote to increase the sound of the television.
“Shoot them in head, I repeat shoot them in the head, if you don’t have a gun, then just hit the head and pray that it was enough to scramble the brain.”
“What the hell? Judith was all alerted and looked closely towards the television. It was not long before the news starts rolling again. She starts sweating after getting the total news.

Some virus attacked few localities suddenly including their area, resulting turning humans into zombie. The scientists are calling it as virus L as the attacked person mimics laughing due to the motor neuron wrong signalling as a result of the attack from virus L.

The attacked person will approach slowly, limping, extending his hands towards you, exposing his teeth as if smiling, but as soon as it gets hold of you, it will tear you apart. Your lifeless body or what’s left of it will start acting a nesting host for virus L, and within half an hour the victim will turn in to another zombie, searching for another prey.

The only way to stop these zombies is to hit them in their head. The CDA have already started the quarantine process, but the virus is spreading too quickly.”

A chill wave ran through her spine like a snake. After the initial shock Judith started organizing her thoughts.

She quickly checked the doors and windows, all of them. Then reached for the hunting rifle from just above the fire place.

Judith touched the cold long double barrel of the loaded Remington R15; it gives her enough courage to chalk out her next plan. Now she needs to call Sam and also need to have the silver cross from the wall. Somewhere she saw that the silver cross can burn the undead, she is not sure if it works on zombies or not, but having a cross nearby is not going to harm either.

Judith looked for her mobile and about to pick it up, suddenly she saw something that made her fingers clinched around her gun.

Judith looked through the open window of the next building, she cannot remember her name, may be it is Mrs Palmer or Whitney who resides in the next building is possessed by the virus L.

The lady is walking around the room with extended hand, and shaking like a hysteric. A mysterious smile clinched across her face. A pale layer of substance covered her entire face, or it may be the yellow light from the ceiling.

Sam taught Judith everything about shooting a rifle. The distance between the zombie and Judith is about 100 yards, so Judith needs to aim slightly top of her head to get it right.

Judith placed her elbow on the window for the extra support, put her weight on the front leg just as Sam told her, holds her breath, and pressed the trigger.
Judith never thought the back thrust is going to be that hard. After absorbing the initial shock, Judith looked at her neighbor's place.

Judith must have hit the target in the pace she wanted to. Blood splattered all across the wall, the motionless body of the Zombie is on the ground, showing no sign of further movement.

Judith was trembling like a leaf. She was so excited. It was her first shot, and it scored a bull’s eye!!! Sam will not believe her at first. She is so proud of her achievement.

And the old hag was walking like a funny cartoon. Judith tried to remember every step the Zombie was taking before Judith stopped it for good. Judith tried to remember the mysterious smile the woman had at that very moment. So that is what virus L affected zombies looked like!!!

Judith tried to recall the steps, she need to show Sam how the zombie was walking before Judith puts it in its resting place.

Judith started mimicking the steps. She copied the exact smile and the walking style the zombie took. Judith walked slowly with a curved smile and extended hand, limping towards her mobile just beside the window. She needs to call Sam now.

She looked up to see the opposite building across the narrow road. Mr Harris of the local store owner aimed his gun right at Judith.

In a sudden Judith tried to stop Mr Harris. ‘Die you Zombie bitch.” Harris fired twice. One of them entered her head, and while hitting the wardrobe behind her, it took a chunk of her brains with it.

Just then, few miles away the news editor of the channel who telecasted the news few hours ago was surrounded by his colleagues and subordinates congratulating him.

“What an brilliant idea sir, our TRP is about to reach sky high,”

“Seriously sir, what a great idea to celebrate the April fool’s day with such a practical joke.”

“Sir, I just want to see the faces after half an hour when we will tell them that they have been fooled by the most happening news channel in this area ever.”

“Please excuse me sir, I need to script the wordings correctly before we telecast the final braking news, I think the camera should focus inside the studio this time and we should all yell together APRRRRIL FOOOOOOL……”
